Around about £90 comes to mind, but that seems a lot for that time. It was expensive though.

My best mate, and me fish opens, and practice together, however we our chalk and cheese when it comes to buying tackle,as an example, his feeder rod (for the long chuck) is a drennan acolyte distance feeder rod £229.I use a shakespeare agility £64.99 ,and guess who chucks further with his okuma £40.00 reel, yes me.Now I'm not knocking him,and I would love to have some of his gear, but what I'm saying is,you don't always have to spend an arm and a leg, toget decent gear, I wouldn't swap my agility for anyother feeder rod on the markettle.

I’ve tried using a cool box and a flask, I ended up buying a cheap pressure cooker. Soak for 48 hours in a bucket then once it’s boiling in the pressure cooker cook for 5 minutes. I cook large batches and freeze and them.

I’m surprised that this can happen under the stringent EU safety regulations. Next they’ll be selling contaminated eggs!

I’ve recently refreshed a lot of my gear after a 15-year break from fishing, so I thought I would review a few of the bits I have bought over the last few months, as independent reviews were lacking. After numerous trips to local tackle shops looking at boxes, it kicked off with the Matrix S36 and from there it seems like I bought the rest of their catalogue!

Matrix S36 Seat Box Orange Edition

The first thing that struck me about this box was its sheer size, it’s a giant and carries a weight to match. The box is very sturdy, I’m 15 stone, and it easily holds my weight even with all legs extended. I’ve sat on the box for 7 hours straight and it’s very comfortable. I purchased the side drawer and deep base option. The side drawer is deep and comes complete with organiser, perfect for all the terminal tackle that you need close by. The deep base is perfect for keeping catapults, feeders and other small accessories. I purchased an additional tray unit for a few winders. One down side are the clips that secure the trays, these stick on a regular basis. Although the box is very heavy, this is easily overcome by using a trolley. I paid £450 for the box but have seen it for as low as £350/£400, it’s a bargain and I would highly recommend it.

Matrix Extendable Side Tray

They tray is Using the Matrix 3D connections, this box will fit onto a variety of leg sizes and shapes. The tray is very big and extends from the back of my box to the end of the footplate legs, perfect for all your bait and accessories. The legs are 25MM and have threaded tops for accessories. It will fit into the Matrix net and accessory bag but it does stick out at the top, I generally just lay it flat on the trolley.

Matrix Superbox 2 Wheel Transporter
I’ve only had the trolley out once but I’m fairly happy with it. It’s not as sturdy as a standalone trolley platform but I love the way it just folds up into a bag and packs away. I’ve taken it for about a 5/10-minute trip on a forest path and on a grassy bank, it was fairly smooth and if loaded correctly, quite well balanced. If you do need a platform too then it might be worth looking at a third-party trolley platform combo

Matrix 3D Adjustable feeder arm

This is the only Matrix product I will I hadn’t bought. Although it does its job and holds your rod, it’s not very solid and the rod can bounce around.

Matrix Ethos Pro 2 Rod Still Holdall

The outer material is very good quality and feels like it will last, there is plenty of space inside for 2 rods and reels. It comes with two distance measuring sticks for accurate distance measuring. The butt of the rod could do with a Velcro patch to keep it in place.

Matrix Ethos Pro Net and Accessory bag

Again, the outer material is of very good quality and there is plenty of space in the various compartments. The compartments allow you to securely store various bits of tackle without it all bashing around like in normal carryalls.

Matrix RS Hydro 20K Bid & Brace/ Jacket

The material is of very good quality and although I haven’t tried it out in the rain definitely is breathable in warm weather. The waterproof rating is very high, even higher than the expensive outdoor I bought from mountain warehouse. I would recommend trying them on before purchase as I had to send them back and get the next size up.

Overall, I’m really happy with the Matrix gear I have bought although I now look like a bit of a full kit ****er!

The Vecht is hugely temperamental. When its still, clear and not moving after a prolonged dry spell you can pre-bait and go down the next day and catch nothing.

In periods of rain where there is flow and colour (we needed 2oz to hold bottom last week) it absolutely fishes its nuts off and its the easiest place in the world to get a bag of Bream even without Pre-bait. The issue is the flow drops really quickly as the river is tightly managed through a series of sluices, so your catching window is always limited. Last week we were really lucky as it was a very wet September topped up with heavy rain whilst we were over there.

We fish a number of locations on the Vecht based on weather conditions, predominantly wind direction (always good to have it off your back).

If you talk to Richard at De Kourberg he knows all the good spots.

I agree with up in the water I have both the 13ft and 14ft agility distance continental feeder rods, recently on facebook I was looking at a video clip of Steve Ringer singing the praises of the new daiwa tournament rods selling price of £450, needless to say a brilliant range of rods however it sent me straight to the rod holdall just had to check if I had missed a trick, well the agility has the power for the long chuck has a great action. Needless to say If I was representing England in the world champs feeder champs then I might consider buying the daiwa however I am a club angler so will carry on with using the agilities, the occasional usage doesn't warrant a £450 outlay. Large Tackle prices only alienate anglers from the sport who feel they cannot compete with cheaper tackle.

I have four rods from this range. My current heaviest is the 12ft Heavy version which come with 1.1/2, 2.0 and 2.1/2oz carbon tips. I rate these rods very highly, especially for the money. I am also looking to get the 13ft Heavy 120g and I am told it comes 2.1/2, 3.0 and 3.1/2oz tips.
