I used a pole from a chair for years, no major problems except you had to take extra bags/boxes for all the odds & sods. Now with my trusty sensas box all in one hit,

Hi Trogg.

Yup, that would have been much, much worse.

I am reluctant to ask the question, but either your knowledge of intimate relations is very wrong, or very right, I can't decide which.

And the irony is the struggle between Catholicism and Protestantism is a complete parallel of that between Shia & Sunni Muslims.

All are supposed to worship this "deity" but are at constant conflict with each other over pathetic interpretations.

Daiwa 150sb. I bought my first one about 7 years ago second hand. it was starting to show it's age recently with the odd seized wheel nut etc so managed to get one cheap on ebay that was basically brand new so I now have spares for every bit, wheel kit and all the accesories. Can't see me needing one for another 10 years now and I will rememebr to service it so I get no more seizing! :)

Whips and Poles

Traditionally whips were telescopic and used with a flick tip (no elastic)
You would then fish the line roughly the same length as the whip
Usually a whip would be 3/4/5m in length
They were aimed at catching small fish with fine tackle and the term whip came from whipping lots of fish out.
Elasticated whips followed on and people started fitting elastic to cope with larger fish but because you can’t beak a telescopic pole down it gets tricky using elastic as the rig length gets longer than the whip due to the elastic stretching

Poles tend to be much longer upto 16m and are take apart allowing you to break the pole down whilst Fishing
Poles can be used for Fishing to hand similar to a whip Angler’s such as Bob Nudd are famous for catching huge hauls of Roach Fishing a pole to hand they would use power gum instead of elastic and fish longer lengths 6m or more

Some of the skimmer bream were moved to my local club water, an already heavily stocked one acre sand/gravel pit. It only had a few older bream in it before then that always seemed a bit thinner than expected, so it will be interesting to see how the new arrivals do. I haven't caught any of the new stock yet. I don't know what happened to most of the silvers.

And they are off !

Nice report as usual Mick, but to prove I've read it all you had a 3lb plus perch but only weighed in 2-14? Poor estimating?

I'm the complete opposite. I fish fenland drains week in week out and the fixed rive/preston/matrix etc platform type box is perfect and the best IMO. The fen drains are generally steep up to 45 degree banks, and deep water close in. It's the best way to get stable, secure and fishing comfy for me. And often does away with the need for a platform.

If I just fished commercials then I would look elsewhere mind you.

As for which is best, if it was my money I'd be going for the Guru or one of the other colours of the D36 ST box.

I'd have a look in classifieds, eBay and FB selling pages to get a ball park figure and go from there. Difficult as everyone has there own opinion when it comes to the value of an item.

Got the 8m Acolyte a few weeks ago and fish it at full length line to hand most weeks. I've got the flick tip and don't see the point of elasticated tops for the whips. Previously had tournament whip which was also very good. I don't see that the Daiwa range has progressed much over the years, I tried both in the tackle shop and within seconds had said yes to the Acolyte. There is a bit more action than the Daiwa and when using it at full length with 8m of line you can understand why as it puts the line out beautifully. I'm not the strongest out there but I can use this for a match without feeling any stress or aches on my arms. It's a seriously good bit of kit and I'll be having a second when I get round to it and the extensions when they come out. I've caught bream up to pound and half out of 14 ft river swims on this whip and I have to say its the first piece of tackle that's got me excited in many years.

I love fishing the Rochdale Canal -walk along it on a hot summers day and its incredible to see the huge numbers of fish basking in the sun....
But
It can be really frustrating trying to catch a decent net because as soon as you get a swim going,, the pike move in and your swim dies
I often sling out a pike rod while I'm pleasure fishing but once the pike move in the silvers move off

My record pike session was 23 pike in a single session (roving with livebaits)
But then I've also had bream to 9lb and tench to 7lb
I used to catch a lot of 2lb roach from the Boarshaw section - but since the canal was re-opened to boat traffic I haven't managed to catch another one

I once finished in the top 10 of the old Rochdale Canal Championship match when they used to be organised by the Manchester Evening News - 500 peggers on a canal !!

The last big match on the canal was the Angling Trust Canal Pairs match a few years ago - where the biggest single weight was 22lb !! (not bad for a cut)

I have been thinking about trying to revive this match - but I reckon we'd struggle to get more than 50 anglers these days
